183 children attend Consell de Formentera Escola d’Estiu

Escola estiu 2020 mascaretesThe Formentera department of youth reports that last week 183 children started at the Consell de Formentera’s summer programme for kids. In 2020, the Escola d’Estiu counts among its participants 100 children in Sant Francesc, 58 in Sant Ferran and 25 in La Mola. Of the 29 workers in charge of the children’s care, 27 are day counsellors and two are directors.

Youth office chief Vanessa Parellada pointed out that places were awarded to every single applicant, even those whose applications were submitted after the initial deadline, once the programme was already under way. Nineteen boys and girls missed the original cut-off date, noted Parellada, who explained that amid this year’s unusual circumstances, “an extra effort was made and extra staff hired in order to meet the needs of Formentera families”.

Staggered drop-off and pick-up
The Escola d’Estiu daily programme runs from 8.00am to 2.30pm, and this year, parents and carers are asked to choose from one of several drop-off and pick-up times. The main theme of the 2020 programme is health, while the watchword —“Ens cuidam”— aims to encourage personal care.

Special safety protocol
Special protocol will be in place to prevent the spread of covid-19. Group size will be reduced and counsellors will interact exclusively with their assigned groups, abstaining from contact with other children to keep transmission risks to a minimum and forgoing trips outside the centre for the same. Cleaning and disinfecting measures mandated by the authorities will be in place too.
