Formentera youth to join “Fridays for Future” and global climate strike

cartell-fff1The Consell de Formentera's youth and environment offices are teeing up politically-oriented action to dovetail with Fridays for Future activities at the close of the week. Part of the September programme at the Casal de Joves, “No és una crisi del planeta, és una crisi de la humanitat” (The crisis isn't the planet's, the crisis is humankind's) signals a continuation of earlier bids to support the worldwide youth movement to halt climate change.

The Friday programme will overlap with the global climate strike and related demonstrations round the globe. From 6.30pm in Sant Francesc, islanders can check out kid-friendly workshops and a murals exhibit put together with Formentera Marxa. At 7.30pm, local climate champions can catch a screening of the documentary «Consciencia’t i actua» (Get smart and take action), not to mention a video about the path that rubbish travels on Formentera, and can pick up informational brochures as well.

Taking the stage at 8.30pm, IMPROXOC will illuminate the climate crisis while partner groups like CleanWave, Plastic Free Formentera and Qué Celeste Festival man educational stands spotlighting the importance of sound environmental practices. Participating children and youth will be treated to snacks. This and other actions are aimed at raising awareness while children are still young about the importance of local and global sustainability.
